Uncovering Beijing: Wangfujing

Wangfujing is one of Beijing’s largest and most famous shopping streets. It is located just to the east of The Forbidden City on the famous Chang’an Street. Wangfujing is split into two major parts: the modern shopping street and the more traditional Wangfujing Night Market.

The modern shopping street is filled with popular brand name stores such as Cartier, Adidas, Nike, Swatch and more. The giant Wangfujing Foreign Bookstore is located near the south entrance and has a nice selection of foreign books. The shopping street is pretty pricey however shows Beijing’s modernity.

Veering off the main shopping street you will find the Wangfujing Night Market. The night market is a maze of little stands selling trinkets and exotic and unusual foods. If your stomach is up for it, head here to taste BBQ scorpions, snakes and centipedes. Wangfujing can be reached by following the Wangfujing exit on Beijing Subway line 1.
